Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens

Opened in 1977, the Morikami is a center for Japanese arts, culture and cuisine. The 200-acre sanctuary features rotating gallery exhibits, tea ceremonies, an educational outreach program with local schools and organizations, and traditional Japanese festivals celebrated several times a year. Also of interest is the serene lake and surrounding garden; you can meander along the stone paths to the sound of rustling bamboo and waterfalls.

In the mid-1970s, George Morikami, a Japanese vegetable and fruit farmer turned wealthy landowner, donated the land to Palm Beach County that would become the site of the museum. Since its opening, the museum has provided a window into the life of Florida's late 19th century and early 20th century Japanese immigrant farming community, called the Yamato Colony, as well as Japanese culture.
