Television, fairy tales and other pop-culture staples inspired the artists behind Pop! Pop!
Television inspired Patrick Fatica's "She Secretly Sings of Orchids and Whispers." The title of the Orlando artist's painting, which depicts a large-eyed, bloody-nosed girl, is based on "Lost." "Orchids refers to the Orchid station, which caused the time-jumping and the bloody noses, and Whispers represent the Others," he explains. "She is not supposed to be anyone specific. Really, she's a blending of the Dharma Initiative, the Others and the Losties."
Pennsylvania artist Sara Broski watches her share of TV, too, but she tried to avoid referencing specific pop culture items in favor of making a broader statement in her acrylic painting titled "Television." As for what the skeleton head with the television eyes reveals about her, the artist admits, "I'm quite addicted to reality television to the point where it conflicts with and kills my productivity."
