Beer find oasis
Honey's Bar and Grill's appeal rests in its being the only source of fun in an otherwise docile neighborhood. Stuffed into the Jacaranda Shopping Center in Plantation between a couture pet-clothing shop and a Chinese takeout, this new bar serves specialty brews and drinks, and savory bar food with a Latin flair.

Framed posters of race cars, Mick Jagger and David Bowie fight for wall space, creating a somewhat–schizophrenic Nascar and rock 'n' roll atmosphere, with a poster of Rocky Balboa thrown in for good measure. Pool tables fill out the main room and a small cove of tables and chairs off to the side is perfect for dinner and drinks. A rustic, clay–colored bar serves wine, several draft and bottled beers, and a collection of tequilas. There also is a solid representation of Florida beers on tap and a frozen–drink machine spins three types of tropical drinks. Keeping the neighbors in mind, the bar only stays open until 10 p.m. during the week and 11 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, but with any luck, that will change.

Stop by for: 99-cent draft beers and $5.95 pitcher specials with six free chicken wings throughout April, karaoke Thursdays, and DJs Fridays and Saturdays

Load up on: Florida–brewed beers such as Holy Mackerel Special Golden Ale and Native Lager

Tunes: "Give It to Me" by Timbaland featuring Nelly Furtado and "Yahh" by Soulja Boy

Leave the house in: Jeans and T-shirts

How to find it: 829 West Sunrise Blvd., Plantation, 954-452-2445, Honeysbarandgrill.com
