Haus party

What do you do when your favorite watering hole runs dry and closes its doors for good? You could waste salty tears crying into your perfectly good beer, or you could buck up and start your own establishment in the same location. German–born husband–and–wife team Peter Kachler and Gabriele Doll–Kachlerdecided on the latter, turned the old spot for Lake Worth's Dirty Dwarf into the new Little Munich bar and restaurant, and opened just over a month ago. Traces of the fun, dwarf–themed space remain, from little dwarfs carved into the tiles and rustic–wood window shutters in front. But changes like a small, neon "Little Munich" sign posted at the door, homemade German grub like goulash and bratwurst coming from the kitchen and German flags hanging throughout are now ineffect.

The Dwarf's warm and knowledgeable bartender Chris Munoz is still there to fill your glass, but expect some choice German beers on tap now, such as Franziskaner and Bitburger. You'll also find German liquors, including Killepitsch—a more-potent and better-tasting German alternative to the cough-syrupy Jägermeister—or Echte Kroatzbeere blackberry brandy. Little Munich is open daily for the lunch and dinner crowds and stays open until 2a.m. on the weekends for drinks, smokes and no–frills hangout time on the breezy patioarea.

Stop by for:
Happy hour 4-7 p.m. every Monday through Friday, live entertainment and bands Friday and Saturday nights and karaoke on Sundays

Load up on: The Bitch Bomb, made like the standard Jägerbomb but with Killepitsch and Red Bull, or Schönauer apple schnapps, served as a shot or with club soda in a tallglass

Tunes: Anything from rare German techno and polka to disco queen Donna Summer

Leave the haus in: Jeans and T's, no lederhosen here until next October

How to find it: 806 Lake Ave., Lake Worth, 561-932-0050, Littlemunich.com
