Opium Group brings South Beach flare to Hollywood
Opium held its grand opening on Friday night. The former South Beach hotspot relocated to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood after battling ongoing noise restrictions in the South of Fifth district. While the decade–old nightclub will no longer have its SoBe flare, it didn’t stray too far from its decorative roots. The new location, clad with Paris and Asian themes, maintained the classic Buddha - dozens of which are placed sparingly around the club’s entrance, bars and both levels—and crème colored paper chandeliers, which dangle above the dance floor. The main room, which played mainly house music for the night, held a dozen or so VIP booths, with more booths leading along the stairs to the second floor, which overlooked the dance floor below. The walls in a much smaller VIP room are adorned with vibrant pink, green and gold velvet wallpaper. Special performances took place hourly as everything from geisha–clad go–go dancers to drummers playing customary Asian beats and dancing dragons danced under a haze of smoke machines.
