It’s helpful when a bar’s name is also a detailed description, but thankfully it’s not mandatory (the plethora of Crappy Overpriced Nightclubs in town would get confusing pretty fast). Fortunately for Green Bar at 400 Semoran Blvd. (just past Highway 17-92 in Casselberry) they decided against the more wordy Pleasant Bar with Lots of Cheap Beer and Pool Tables and went with the color of the walls.

Décor: Formerly McGinty’s Pub, you can certainly say that the walls in the new place are definitely green (well, three out of four, anyway). But so is the felt on the five pristine pool tables, a welcome sight in quality as well as quantity since you won’t wait long (or have to shark your way through some scary dudes) to get a chance to play on a smooth table. You’ll also find the latest editions of Silver Strike and Golden Tee, and a rather intimidating vintage boxing game lurking behind the electronic dartboards. Plenty of small tables dot the large floor, promising rest for weary, thirsty feet – until they’re cleared away to make room for the semi-regular live acts. If the games don’t do it for you, feel free to be a barstool potato and watch one of the many huge HDTVs, which the bartender will be happy to channel surf for you (though for safety’s sake you might not want to switch a race or live game – it’s that kind bar).

The Bar: Though Green Bar’s bar is quite large to begin with, they’re planning on expanding it down to near the front door, making more rest space for drunken elbows. They have a whole bunch of taps available, but most are domestic (the Bud and Miller variety) with a few spots open to the likes of Yuengling and Guinness. Showing that the Irish spirit of McGinty’s isn’t quite dead, Guinness is a paltry $4 a pint, with the other domestics falling around $3 and under. Liquor is also reasonably priced, with an average-strength well going for $3.75, generous shots of Jager for $4.75, and any of the bomb drinks for $5.75. During a race you can get a bucket of Bud Light (naturally) for $10, and pints of the stuff for a mere $1.75. Every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. the bucket gets even cheaper with five bottles of Ice House plunked on your table for $7 (hey they provide the deal – it’s your job to choke ‘em down). Sundays are hospitality nights from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. with (as long as you have proof you’re in the industry) $4 Bud or Bud Light pitchers, $5 Irish car bombs, $5 Jager bombs, and $5 cherry bombs.

Service: Since the place is fairly new most of the staff are still working out the groove of Green Bar, but friendly service (that gets even friendlier with decent tipping – but not that friendly, wrong bar) is a pretty safe bet.

Sounds: When local acts aren’t coming in (which is fairly infrequent so far) the touchscreen jukebox sets the mood. Unless, that is, the patrons have some sense and they keep the stupid thing off in preference of silence.

Crowd: Because Casselberry itself is a bizarre melting pot of demographics, you could find yourself awash in a sea of drunken college kids with a taste for cheap Guinness or knee deep in an impromptu biker rally.
