Summer means never having to say you’re sober. This year, instead of getting sloshed on your friend’s deck (again) head over to one of these parties. There’s DJs, dancing, boozing, tanning and all the usual summertime shenanigans.

Ditch your backyard for some poolside partying
By Metromix staff
May 21, 2008Dirty Sailor Wednesdays at MJ's
Channel your inner Kahuna with drink specials like Dirty Sailor Shots and Tiki F’ck Around and this ocean-inspired club night that also serves up surfer punk (on the speakers) and washboard abs (in the hot body contest).
Night Swim at the Tropicana Bar
Even when the sun goes down, summer nights are just as hot. Especially when clubbers skimp down to their bikinis at Tropicana Bar’s weekly “Night Swim” event where the trendy, young Hollywood crowd hook up to take a dip in one of the largest heated pools in L.A.
Swimming With Sharks at the Standard Hotel
Every three Saturdays, the hip-looking congregate at the Standard’s Rooftop Bar to sunbathe, chill out in the pool, battle it out in the watergun wars or relax in one of the unique vibrating waterbed pods while listening to the sounds of L.A.’s premiere DJs who frequent the event.
The Do-Over
This end-of-the-weekend bash is great for people who don’t want the house party to ever end. The Do-Over features resident DJs Chris Haycock and Jamie Strong with host Aloe Blacc, but you can also expect special guest appearances behind the decks and lots of grooving. There’s enough PBR and carafes of sangria to quench the thirst of the diverse crowd of partygoers.
Jet Set Sundays at the Gateway Hotel
Every Sunday, head to the pool at the Gateway Hotel for DJs, cocktails, frozen treats and yummy appetizers. Enjoy specialty drinks like the Jet Blue (a mix of Absolut Citron, fresh lemonade and blue curacao) and the 747 (made from Stoli Citros, Sprite, and lime and pineapple juices). DJs Jean Louis (from King Louis XIV) and Sugar Ant Invasion spin beats to set the lounge mood, and the Good Humor ice cream truck is nearby in case you need to cool down with some frozen snacks. It’s a free party, so arrive early and don’t forget to bring a towel.
Sundays at the Standard
Nothing gets rid of a hangover better than a cannonball and a refreshing mojito. Every Sunday, join guest DJs as they spin groovy beats and summertime tunes to a rooftop full of drunk sunbathers and guys in really short swim trunks. Don't forget to RSVP and arrive early for a discounted cover. Otherwise, after 2 p.m. it's $20 and all the water-bed pods are taken.
Sundaze at Hopscotch Lounge
Pools, pool bars, lounge chairs, and a DJ playing reggae and dancehall—sounds like our kind of Sunday! Chill in a personal cabana or hang out under an umbrella by the pool; it’s a perfect way to end the weekend.
Aqua Groove at the Blue Velvet
A Sunday afternoon pool party is a great way to end the weekend or start the week. Blue Velvet (located inside the Flat apartment building) hosts this weekly party complete with DJs, cabana lounging, bottle service and poolside dancing. And the best part—not only is swim attire is welcomed, it’s preferred.
Open House Sundays @ Citizen Smith
With a tagline like “come sexy or don’t come at all,” the ongoing event promises to be a day full of revelry. Complimentary mimosas (for all early arrivers)!
Ice Cream Sundays at the Scene Bar
Hipsters with asymmetrical haircuts and tight black hoodies get their party on "kiddie-style" with free ice cream and the type of pop tunes you'd dance to at a Bar Mitzvah.
