Celebrating its second year in Art Basel, SUSHISAMBA Restaurant Group rang in the festivities with GINZATROPICALIA: Graffiti Gone Global. Taking over the future space of the resto group’s Sugarcane Lounge (slated to open in fall ’09), Midtown was abuzz with the street art exhibit. Artists like Flip, Lebo, Flavio Samelo, Dres 13, Dolla and Suiko represented SUSHISAMBA’s Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian heritages with varying flavors of free-form artistry.
DJ Richard Vasquez mastered the ones and twos as curious perusers stopped in for a look at the GINZA art, sipping complimentary Cabana Cachaca caipirinhas while checking out the Sambazon skate show. SUSHISAMBA dromo fans took advantage of the on-site GINZA menu with featured fare up for purchase.
