The annual, epic production that is Art Basel is officially underway. Kicking off the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, an explosive exhibit at Lincoln Road’s posh ArtCenter of South Florida, the Kaiju Monster Invasion, welcomed artists, admirers and passers-by in for an evening of eye-catching works influenced by Japanese Kaiju vinyl toys, where Eastern iconography meets Western interpretation. Amassed collections by Ron English, Coop, Kozik and Isabel Samaras acted as muses for many installations.
A visual sampler took center stage depicting varying interpretations of classic battles and unique characters that merged for the opening of the month-long display. Enthusiasts sipped Rubi Rey Rum cocktails as they perused and mingled. Sunset’s RA Sushi created an on-site sushi kitchen with featured rolls from their Art Basel prix-fixe menu, “For Art’s Sake,” to help set the tone for Curator Harold Golen’s masterpiece of the Japanese raid on Miami Beach.
