Terribly Odd
In April, the Columbus, Ohio, art gallery Rivet hosted "Children of a Lesser Odd," his solo show with a turn-of-the-century-orphanage theme. "The premise is that these were children who had yet to be adopted either because of their deformities or just the fact that they were miscreants," Odd explains. The series' subjects include Edward Blister, who lost his sight at an early age and set fires to cope with his rage, and little Johnny Winters, whose mouth was sewn shut because he couldn't stop spouting smut.
Odd's new works incorporate a greater range of colors. "Originally, I had wanted to work solely monochromatic," he says, "and this year I broke from that."
This summer, Odd will gear up for an Oct. 25 solo show at PinkGhost. "I'm calling it 'Poe Folks,'" he says. "It's all based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe. I'm hoping to have 10 or 15 pieces, and they're all gonna be larger in scale." On Oct. 29, he will also participate in "Noxious Fumes," a gas-mask-themed show at the Rivet.
