You don’t have to be human to be loved.
You don’t even have to be alive.
At least that’s how it is in the movies, where we’ve seen people form close relationships with baseball bats, volleyballs and even the occasional can of vegetables.
The quirky indie comedy “Lars and the Real Girl” is generating plenty of buzz for its story of Lars (Ryan Gosling), a young man who falls in love with a life-size blow-up doll.
Of course, Lars isn’t alone. There have been plenty of poignant cinematic couplings between humans and inanimate objects.
In our quest to compile the best of these strange pairings we’ve considered just about everything. But we did have to draw the line at robots (because what did “Short Circuit” teach us if not that Number 5 is, indeed, alive?).
Take a look at what did make the cut.
