Under normal circumstances, the week's DVD pick would easily be "The Lives of Others," the best foreign language film winner at this year's Academy Awards and easily one of the year's best movies. But this is no normal week.
Instead it's time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of the best sci-fi/action flicks...of...all...time. "Robocop." From the warped mind of director Paul Verhoeven (most recently in theaters with "Black Book"), this is gloriously cheesy but surprisingly smart '80s moviemaking at its finest.
"Robocop" fans already know what they're in for, but the generous amount of bonus features on the new two-disc set will give even the most hardcore devotees something new as well. There's an audio commentary from Verhoeven, the writer and an executive producer, six featurettes, four deleted scenes, multiple trailers and TV spots, a storyboard presentation of the infamous "boardroom scene" and not just one, but two (!) versions of the movie (the theatrical cut and the extended, unrated version).
We'd buy that for a dollar!
