Big question: Can this documentary cause a fuss by borrowing wholesale the "controversy" that helped make a sensation out of "The Da Vinci Code"?
Skip it: Even readers who geeked out over the globetrotting alterna-history of “Code” are likely to find this daft documentary both exhausting and exasperating. It takes over 90 minutes for the film to even acknowledge how murky all of its theories actually are. And even then Burgess acts like “facts” and “evidence” really are concepts you can put in quotes.
Catch it: For the uniquely awkward feeling that the movie you're watching is a mockumentary just playing it very, very straight.
Bottom line: Maybe Burgess really is documenting a great discovery, but his approach never makes it feel credible. All hushed tones, self-serving paranoia and dubious experts, this is porn for conspiracy nuts. That’s not surprising from a filmmaker whose resume includes wide-eyed examinations of Area 51 and CIA assassinations. But there's only one important lesson that emerges here: If you're mounting an attack on organized religion it's best not to make yourself look crazy in the process.
