Tyler Perry burst onto the Hollywood scene in 2005 with the surprise hit “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” and just three years later he’s about to release his fifth film, “Meet the Browns.”
While Perry’s mix of romance, comedy, social issues and God-fearing religion has earned him a devoted following and turned him into a one man franchise, his movies inevitably receive none-too-favorable reviews. It’s even become an expected practice that they won’t be screened in advance for film critics.
Two Metromix editors—Geoff, a resident movie critic, and Rochelle, a self-professed Perry fanatic—recently took the time to analyze the divide over Perry’s films.
