Even though Miami-Dade County has long dominated South Florida’s dance-music scene, Broward always cornered the rock market. No longer. While Revolution and the Culture Room have kept the party going in Broward, Studio A has quickly built a reputation as the go-to place for live rock ’n’ roll in South Florida. Even the venue’s location, next door to techno mecca Club Space, seems to suggest that Miami-Dade has found there’s more to life than beats and blips. And with performances by Yo La Tengo, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and Cat Power, Studio A can boast the hipper-than-thou indie cred that is so important in a town as image-conscious as the Magic City.
