Miami's own Otto Von Schirach is set to conquer the world
And Schirach's looks match his sound. Not that he plays while covered in vomit, but his style reflects a certain … originality. Schirach has performed while wearing white briefs over long johns, a cape and a Lone Ranger mask. He also has taken the stage in boxer shorts and a tank top while wearing a plastic shower cap.
His latest album, "Oozing Bass Spasm," is a jackhammering yet danceable, 53-minute release laden with sex-fused samples and beats that blend deep-house and ultraviolent imagery. Between his experimental albums and collaborations, Schirach has garnered enough musical credibility to send him around the world and to play with acts such as Peaches, The Locust and Skinny Puppy.
"A bunch of us played to a sold-out crowd at 4 a.m.," Schirach says about a concert in Dour last year. "There were, like, a million kids on drugs, so we turned all the lights on. It was like daylight in there. We just started speaking in tongues and playing grind. It was just raw.
"In Europe, they're more accepting of electronic music," he continues. "It's so easy for us to play shows because the grindcore scene is huge. There are these mutants who just listen to everything. They have no boundaries and listen to it all. They love breakcore. In Prague, it's ridiculous. In Budapest, it's huge."
