Miami's own Otto Von Schirach is set to conquer the world
After touring with Skinny Puppy and Schematic, Schirach was approached by Mike Patton, the producer and former lead vocalist of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle, to release an album on his independent label, Ipecac. In 2005, Schirach sent a mix CD with 38 songs to Patton, and Patton hand-selected and sequenced 18 songs that became Schirach's first full-length release, 2006's "Maxipad Detention."
Schirach plans to send Patton his next album, which will says will be finished by next year.
"This next one is going to be a lot darker, more grindcore, more serious," Schirach explains. "A lot of guitars and accordions and synths through these huge amps. I'm using the Millennium Falcon of synths on this album. It's so old. My approach is to just start with something twisted and make something out of it. I'm singing a lot on there."
When Schirach returns from Europe, he will meet up with Blowfly in Miami and then promptly return to the continent to tour with the funk-fueled, geriatric porn rapper with whom he has been working on an album.
"[It is] all about sci-fi, booty-bass electro," he says of the recording, "[and] lesbian zombie hookers who take over the planet."
