The Dish

Visiting around noon, we take the server's suggestion and order a lunch special combo, available daily from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 2:30 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. From the 15 tempting choices, we settle on the chicken teriyaki and shrimp tempura ($9.95). Removing a neatly stacked tower of foam containers from the plastic bag, we're pleased with our pick. The price is right and the food plentiful.

The combos come with a choice of soup or salad. We go for the greens, opening a small white box that reveals lettuce topped with two decoratively cut carrot slices. There also is cucumber and juicy red tomato. The ginger dressing adds a lively kick.

But it's the entree that makes the trip worthwhile. The teriyaki chicken is a standout. Ten strips of grilled white meat are glazed with a sweet soy sauce mixture. Another compartment holds two shrimp encased in crunchy tempura batter with dipping sauce. An added surprise is a large round slices of tempura sweet potato. Rice comes in a separate container.

Other lunch combos feature traditional Japanese fare such as sushi rolls, sashimi and yakiniku ($7.95 to $13.95). In the mood for Thai? Lunch specials ($6.95 to $7.95) include several varieties of noodle dishes. All Japanese and Thai meals are served with rice and a choice of soup or salad.. A regular menu is also available; a children's menu includes teriyaki, katsu, tempura and sushi ($6.50 to $8).
