The Dish
They've been pumping out great subs from this Pompano landmark for 20 years.

These are made to order on golden brown fresh-from-the-bakery rolls (white or whole wheat), dewy leaf lettuce, ruby vine ripes and piles of meats and cheeses along with a few surprises.

Think steak pizzaiola, barbecue beef and a pizza sub with all the flavors of a good pie (most are $5.95 for a half; $9.95 for the 12-inch). As good as the cold ones are, I'm a sucker for one of Sottini's hot specialties. Especially the Malibu chicken ($6.75 for the half sub).

The chicken is grilled and seasoned, then cut into small thin pieces for easier eating. A smear of honey mustard dressing moistens the bread before the chicken goes on with thin-sliced baked Virginia ham and mozzarella. It's all heated so the cheese melts into the meats. Foil wrap keeps it toasty.

Macaroni salad, potato salad or slaw comes with sandwiches. You can make it a more filling meal by adding fries ($1.75) or a cup of soup ($1.25).
