Yama Japanese Restaurant

I went to yama because a friend who lives off atlantic said it was her favorite place. When we first walked in, the sushi rollers took a look at us and we just stood there. No hello, no nod, no nothing. I started looking at the menu at the front, until someone recognized me to seat me. The place didn't have many customers, there were probably 6 tables occupied on a Wednesday evening around 8pm. The waitress finally sat us and then it took her while to come back with drinks. She asked us if we wanted to start with an appetizer and we started with the seaweed salad. I wasn't too impressed with it. It was a rather small portion for $5.50. It was a bit greasy, but it was alright. After we finished it and looked over the menu and we decided what we wanted. We were in no rush, but the service was taking forever. She had no other tables to wait on, and she was still taking forever to get to us. Finally we ordered, another round of starters, Miso Soup and a Green Salad and 3 rolls: Dancing Eel Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Spicy Tuna. The Miso soup came out with the salad which we were enjoying. The miso soup came out ok, it could have warmer. It's funny though, because right before we ordered the soup, there was a lady who asked her soup to me warmed up a bit more. My boyfriend said while eating it that he knows why she asked it. The green salad for $3.95 was such a rip off. It was a heap full of lettuce with the ginger dressing. I like ginger dressing with the vinegar taste, rather than a sweet taste. It was very sweet. I believe it was an overdose of honey that contributed to that sweet flavor. The rolls came out shortly after. They were okay, I wasn't totally impressed with the sushi. You would think a sushi place on Atlantic would be serving great quality and service since its on a popular street. I was totally unimpressed with this place and will likely never go there again. There are plenty other places in Boca Raton that have more bang for your buck and better rolls. Im not a picky eater either, just totally unimpressed with this place.I tipped the server who was chatting on her cellphone towards the end of our meal and had to flag her down we were ready to go, not even 15%, and I always tip 20%. I do not recommend this place for food or service, though ambiance and decoration makes this place a good atmosphere.
